FAQ

What is Regenerative Cellular Therapy?

Regenerative Cellular Therapy involves the use of specialized stem cells and biological products to promote tissue repair and regeneration. These therapies aim to enhance the body’s healing mechanisms and address a wide range of health and wellness concerns.

It’s important to note that while cellular therapy holds great promise for Regenerative Medicine and the treatment of various medical conditions, the field is still evolving, and clinical trials are ongoing to assess their safety and efficacy for different applications. The use of cellular therapy in medical treatments is subject to regulatory oversight to ensure their safety and effectiveness.

What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells with the unique ability to develop into various types of cells in the body. They play a crucial role in tissue regeneration and repair by replacing damaged or aging cells with healthy new ones. They also help support our immune system. They also secrete exosomes and other growth factors that help with the repair process. As we age, the stem cells in our body decrease, leaving us vulnerable to the onset of injury and chronic health issues. Stem cell therapy is a promising avenue for addressing a variety of health conditions.

What are Mesechymal Stem Cells (MSC)?

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a type of stem cell that can be found in various tissues throughout the body, including bone marrow, adipose (fat) tissue, and the umbilical cord. These cells are multipotent, which means they have the ability to differentiate into a variety of cell types, including bone cells (osteocytes), cartilage cells (chondrocytes), and fat cells (adipocytes), among others.

Research has shown key characteristics and features of mesenchymal stem cells:

  • Multipotency: MSCs have the capacity to differentiate into several different cell types. This differentiation potential makes them valuable for tissue repair and regeneration.
  • Immunomodulatory Properties: MSCs possess immunomodulatory properties, meaning they can modulate the immune system’s response. They can dampen inflammatory responses and may be used in therapies aimed at reducing inflammation in various diseases.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects: MSCs secrete anti-inflammatory molecules that can help reduce inflammation in the body. This characteristic has led to their investigation in the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.
  • Tissue Repair and Regeneration: Due to their ability to differentiate into different cell types and promote tissue growth, MSCs have been studied for their potential in regenerating damaged tissues, such as bone and cartilage.
  • Low Immunogenicity: MSCs have a relatively low level of immunogenicity, which means they are less likely to be recognized and rejected by the recipient’s immune system when transplanted. This property makes them a potential candidate for allogeneic (from a donor) cell therapies.
  • Research and Therapeutic Applications: MSCs have been studied for various therapeutic applications, including the treatment of conditions like osteoarthritis, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, and neurological disorders.

What are Exosomes?

Exosomes are tiny vesicles secreted by stem cells that contain a potent mix of bioactive molecules, such as growth factors and cytokines. These tiny messengers play a significant role in cell-to-cell communication and can stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. Exosome therapy is an emerging approach to harnessing these benefits.

What Are People Using Stem Cells For?

While we cannot make statements about the effectiveness of stem cells or any guarantees about curing specific diseases or conditions, clinical studies have shown promising results in various areas. Some of the most common uses of Regenerative Cellular Therapy:

  • Joint Pain & Soft Tissue Injury Relief: Treatments may help alleviate pain and promote healing in conditions like osteoarthritis and sports injuries that cause soft tissue injury and inflammation.
  • Anti-Aging and Aesthetics: Cellular and Exosome Therapy can be used for facial rejuvenation, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, and improving skin texture.
  • Hair Restoration: Cellular and Exosome Therapy may aid in regrowing hair for those experiencing hair loss.
  • General Wellness and Vitality: Some individuals seek Cellular Therapy to boost overall well-being and energy levels.
  • Sexual Health: Treatments may support sexual health and function.
  • Wound Healing: Regenerative therapies can assist in healing chronic wounds and ulcers and as part of post-surgery procedures.
  • Alternative to Surgical Procedures:  This therapy can be considered as an alternative to surgical procedures or in conjunction with surgical procedures to aid the body’s own healing process.
  • Additional Uses: Cellular Therapy is also being studied to address chronic diseases, neurologic disorders, allergic disorders, cardiopulmonary problems, and vascular disorders.

Has the FDA approved the use of any MSC or Exosome Product?

No. The FDA has acknowledged that Stem Cells (referred to by the FDA as Human Cellular Tissue and Product (HCT/P) per Title 21 Part 1271 of the Code of Federal Regulations)  has the potential to benefit patients. However, the FDA has not approved any stem cell-based products for use, other than cord blood-derived hematopoietic progenitor cells (HSC) (blood forming stem cells) for certain hematologic cancers. There are, however, many ongoing studies in the US and international protocols for the past 12 years showing the benefits of Stem Cell Therapy with Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC) and Exosomes derived from Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSC) for many different conditions.
